Bimosedaa “Let’s Walk Together”

Culturally Rooted Supportive Housing in Downtown Minneapolis

Bimosedaa—Ojibwe for “Let’s walk together”—is a powerful example of what can be achieved when cultural connection, housing stability, and community partnership come together. Watson-Forsberg partnered with Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative and Avivo to transform the historic L.A. Rockler Fur Building into 50 units of permanent supportive housing designed for Native individuals transitioning out of homelessness.

Located near the intersection of 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue, this 32,027-square-foot redevelopment offers more than just housing. It provides access to wraparound services focused on health, education, employment, and cultural reconnection—delivered in partnership with the Red Lake Nation and coordinated by Avivo.

Watson-Forsberg served as general contractor and cost estimator for the $23 million project, which was completed in December 2023. Bimosedaa stands as a model for culturally informed housing in an urban setting, offering residents proximity to transit, the downtown public library, and a range of community amenities.

In addition to meeting workforce participation goals for WBE (10% actual vs. 9% goal) and MBE (17% actual vs. 8% goal), the project prioritized sustainable building practices, energy efficiency, and respect for the site’s historic character.

At its core, Bimosedaa is about more than housing—it’s about walking together toward healing, stability, and belonging.
