New Artist Lofts in the Heart of Northeast

The largest adaptive reuse complex of artist studios in Minnesota, the Northrup King Building, will include at least 84 affordable live/work units, 30 to 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) living. The newly renovated building will comprise three historic industrial buildings spanning over 13 acres, 3.5 city blocks, and 169,038 SF in gross building area. The building was completed in 2026.

Inside, there are galleries where the resident artists can share and display their art with the local community, and shared artist work rooms for open collaboration. These additions preserve the innovation of the greater campus as a gathering space for artists.

Jerry Haines from the Los Angeles Times notes: “As fine as they are, the Weisman, Walker and MIA rarely let you speak with the artists whose works you admire. For that you have to go to the Northrup King Building.”
