A One-Of-A-Kind Indigenous Center

Mikwanedun Audisookon is an indigenous wellness center where clinical care and community intersect. Watson-Forsberg’s experience coordinating sensitive stakeholder needs, specialized healthcare requirements, and culturally informed design intent provided strong alignment this project.

Guided by the belief that healing is strengthened through connection to community, culture, and place, this project brings together counseling and recovery spaces, administrative offices, medical exam rooms, and shared cultural and gathering areas. The design emphasizes dignity, accessibility, and comfort, with careful attention to circulation, wayfinding, and inclusive spatial planning that supports elders with varying mobility and care needs. Special focus was placed on restorative design principles, including abundant natural light, warm and durable material selections, acoustic control, and calming interior environments that reduce stress.
